Highlights from the 4th Annual Data Protection Compliance Conference & Workshop Series 2005:

Philippe Renaudière, Head of the Data Protection Unit at the European Commission in Brussels, was a superb keynote speaker at the 4th Annual Data Protection Compliance Conference & Workshop Series (  4th and 5th October 2005, London, UK ).

His interesting and animated discussion with Paul Boyle of the Department of Constitutional Affairs on Durant and its aftermath was a delight for all those present.

Eduardo Ustaran of Field Fisher Waterhouse, in his first role as Conference Chairman, proved an excellent and entertaining moderator.

The feedback from the delegates was, without exception, excellent.  Those that have attended the event every year said that 2005 was the best so far.  Top marks were given to the speakers from Barclays, Allen & Overy, Rowe Cohen, Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, Collier Shannon Scott, the Department of Constitutional Affairs, Hogarth Chambers, the European Commission and the Information Commissioner's Office.

To accommodate demand, the Conference and Workshop Series will most likely move to a larger, but equally comfortable, venue for 2006.  The dates of the 2006 event will be announced shortly.

The Annual Data Protection Conference is the data protection event for practitioners. Delegates are given an opportunity to hear from the real experts in the field, not only those who write frequently about data protection issues, but those who have been actively involved in advising on and, in some cases, making the law - overall, an extremely valuable experience!

Privacy & Data Protection - Annual Workshop Series
Wednesday 5th October 2005

The series of
4 half-day Workshops on the day following the Annual Data Protection Conference were designed to allow in-depth analysis and discussion in important areas of data protection compliance.

Each of the Workshops was run by a expert and considered a practical and realistic case study.  There was considerable opportunity to put questions to the Workshop leader during the session.

Congratulations on a successful day, and thanks to all of you for
organising something with a fresher perspective for those of us in the DP field
who are a bit weary of the same old discussions being rolled out at events

Karen Jane Mitchell, Consultant, Accenture Data Privacy Project

Thank you for an excellent conference.  It was very well put together
with plenty of opportunity for questions to be put to the experts present

For a media/technology lawyer constantly advising on the handling of personal data, the First Data Protection Conference was an invaluable chance to keep up to date with the latest thinking not just on the wider issues of privacy and data protection but also on the many tricky or unclear areas of law and practice.  The speakers were all expert and experienced and the debate was informed and lively
