Freedom of Information The Freedom of Information Act 2000, which came into force in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on 1st January 2005, represents the most significant single change, for many decades, in the way the country is governed.
Public authorities ( Central
Government Departments, Quangos, Local Authorities, NHS Bodies,
Police Authorities, Fire Services and others ) are now open to
public scrutiny as never before. Subject to a number of
exemptions, public authorities must now provide a plethora of
information to anyone that requests it.
