Peter is a
Consultant with London law firm Charles Russell and has written the UK's
leading book on data protection law, 'Data Protection – a practical
guide to UK and EU law' ( Oxford University Press ).
Peter, who has
been described by the British Computer Society as "one of the
country's leading data protection experts", is probably the UK's
foremost trainer on data protection law and practice – he
regularly provides bespoke data protection training courses to
large commercial organisations and conducts public data
protection training sessions. |

Ayesha
Bramwell
Senior Solicitor - Shepherd+ Wedderburn |
|
Ayesha is a member of
the Media and Technology group at S+W, where she specialises in
Data Protection, Intellectual Property, IT and Telecoms.
She
advises clients primarily from the financial services, IT and
Telecoms industries, as well as various departments within
government, the public sector and quangos.
Ayesha advises on data
protection aspects of wider commercial transactions, as well as
on the international migration of IT services, outsourcing ( both
within the UK and internationally ), and the use of
sub-processors. |
Ayesha is also a member
of S+W's Information Management team, an internal focus group
which brings together specialists in Freedom of Information,
Data Protection and Privacy, Information Security and IP.
As part of this team, Ayesha advises on records retention
procedure and records management policy. This works brings
together aspects of data protection, information security, rules
of evidence, confidentiality and privilege.
Ayesha has published
many articles on developments in data protection and privacy law
and practice, has provided comment and given interviews for
journalists and regularly presents on these topics at seminars
and training presentations.

Ashley Roughton is a
barrister specialising in Data Protection, Intellectual Property
and Competition and Law at Hogarth Chambers. He was called
to the bar in 1992 after spending 9 years as an academic
engineer.
In addition to his legal
qualifications, he has B.Sc and Ph.D in Engineering and an M.Sc
in Economics.
He is an external
examiner for the department of Commercial Law at Queen Mary
College in intellectual property and his is a member of the
Department of Economics at City University. |

Ashley Roughton,
Barrister - Hogarth Chambers |
He was counsel in the
important data protection cases of Smith and Johnson,
and he regularly advises both individuals and data controllers in
relation to proceedings before the Court and the Information
Tribunal. His client base includes institutions as well as
individuals and he also advises in relation to compliance, data
sharing and cross border transfers.

Kate
Brimsted

Kate is a senior assistant solicitor in Herbert Smith's
Intellectual Property and Technology Department.
Kate specialises in Data Protection and
Privacy law in a commercial context and regularly advises clients in
the UK, Europe and North America on a wide variety of domestic and
international data protection matters, such as tactical advice on
responding to subject access requests against a litigious backdrop,
compliance and exploitation strategies for database owners and risk
analysis in corporate acquisitions and disposals. |
In addition, Kate's practice
encompasses acting for both UK and international clients as
diverse as utilities providers and software developers on a
broad range of intellectual property and IT law issues in
contentious as well as non-contentious areas.
Kate is a leading expert on Data
Protection and Privacy law at Herbert Smith, a founding member
and coordinator of the firm's Data Privacy Working Group, edits
the firm's Data Privacy Bulletin and is a regular contributor to
a wide spectrum of professional journals on topical Data
Protection and Privacy, IP and IT issues. She has spoken
at numerous conferences and professional seminars and is
currently engaged in writing a chapter for a forthcoming data
protection manual. Kate is a fluent German speaker.

Mark
is a partner at Bristows, specialising in non-contentious IT matters, particularly
transactional matters, such as negotiating software development,
system integration and outsourcing agreements.
He has
particular expertise in relation to E-commerce and data protection.
Mark joined
Bristows in 2003 from IBM, where he was in-house counsel for
more than six years. Mark held many positions within the
IBM Law Department, including Global Data Privacy Counsel,
European Software Counsel and European Business Process
Outsourcing Counsel.

In these and other roles,
Mark gained experience of most forms of transactional and
non-transactional IT matters.
As Data Privacy Counsel,
Mark was responsible for advising on IBM's entry into the EU-US Safe
Harbor arrangement and the development and implementation of IBM's
internal data protection policies, and auditing programmes.
Since joining Bristows, Mark
has introduced the firm's 'Health Check' IT services - fixed price
services designed to enable full compliance with relevant E-Commerce
legislation (the E-Commerce Health Check) and Data Protection
legislation (the Data Protection Health Check).

O’Neill

Julie is
Of Counsel to Kelley Drye Collier Shannon Scott's Advertising Law Group.
She counsels clients in all areas of state and federal consumer
trade regulation law, including advertising, all forms of direct
marketing, consumer credit, and sweepstakes and other promotions.
Ms O'Neill also advises clients on compliance with state and federal
privacy and information security laws, and she is a regular
contributor on privacy law developments to two privacy law
publications. |
Prior to joining
Kelley Drye Collier Shannon, Ms. O'Neill was an associate at Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn in Washington, DC. She also served
as a staff attorney in the Federal Trade Commission's New York
regional office, where she investigated violations of federal
antitrust and consumer protection law. Ms. O'Neill is a graduate of
Georgetown University Law Center.

Louise Townsend is a Senior Associate in Pinsent Masons'
Outsourcing, Technology and Commercial Group.
Louise advises on data protection issues including carrying
out data protection compliance audits, advising on overseas
transfers, dealing with and responding to subject access
requests, information security, website compliance and
marketing.
Louise also advises on freedom of information and has been
involved in developing an e-learning product for freedom of
information with Video Arts and in providing comprehensive
training materials for the Scottish Executive on the
Scottish legislation. |

Townsend

Louise is co-author of a book on data protection and pensions
and is a regular contributor to journals, and conferences on
these topics.

Dan Cooper
Special Counsel - Covington & Burling |
|
Dan Cooper is
Special Counsel in the Covington & Burling London office whose
practice area involves advising on European privacy and data
protection matters, as well as contentious and non-contentious
intellectual property work.
Dan advises
clients on compliance with UK and European data protection and
privacy legislation, including the UK Data Protection Act,
Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Human Rights Act, and
related EU directives, such as the EU Data Protection Directive
and EU Electronic Communications Data Protection Directive. |
He has been involved in
drafting global privacy policies and data transfer contracts, as
well as structuring and implementing comprehensive data privacy
audits. He has represented clients in connection with
investigations undertaken by the UK Information Commissioner.
Dan Cooper is a graduate
of Princeton, Oxford and Harvard universities. He is the author
of numerous articles on intellectual property, privacy, and data
security matters and is a member of the Law Society's ad hoc
group on data protection. He has spoken on intellectual
property and privacy issues before various public and private
bodies, and has represented clients in regulatory proceedings
involving European government agencies.
Mr. Cooper is a member
of Privacy International's Board of Trustees, sits on the MI5's
Security Forum, and is a member of CASRO's General Counsel and
Privacy Officer's Forum.

Suzanne is currently
Group Privacy Director within the Legal & Compliance team at
Barclays Bank.
She trained
with global law firm Linklaters, where she qualified into
the Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice. In this
role she advised clients on a variety of aspects of IT law
but quickly developed an interest in global data protection
and ecommerce laws – an interest which has remained firmly
in place ever since.
This
interest led, after completing a number of years in the
practice, to a move in-house within Linklaters to advise the
firm on its own privacy and information risk management
issues. |

Suzanne Rodway
Group Privacy Director - Legal & Compliance team at Barclays

With the experience
gained in this role Suzanne then undertook a secondment to
Barclays as their interim head of data protection. She joined
Barclays in December 2006.
In her new role as Group
Privacy Director she has responsibility for oversight of the
group's compliance with privacy, data protection and freedom of
information laws, worldwide.
Suzanne presents
frequently on privacy issues and writes regularly on the
subject.

is a Partner in the Dublin office of Arthur Cox.
Rob's practice is primarily focused on technological

He has particular experience in data protection,
advising many of Ireland's largest companies and public

betting and gaming where he advises many significant
players, both domestic and international. |
