Data Protection in
Financial Services
Training courses held in London
& Edinburgh
Banks, insurance companies
and other financial institutions face data protection issues in the
context of a unique set of business, risk-management and regulatory
requirements. They have to take account of regulatory and
client confidentiality requirements and restrictions alongside (and
sometimes in tension with) data protection rules.
They also frequently operate
as crossjurisdictional and multi-functional businesses, looking
where possible to share data between their various operations and
adopt consistent operating models worldwide. All of this poses
enormous data protection challenges.
This Workshop takes
a practical look at the data protection issues facing financial
institutions and the steps that can be taken to address them.
It applies data protection rules to the real-life circumstances of a
financial institution and steers a course through the related
regulatory, employment law and other issues.
Delegates will
leave the session feeling equipped to identify and manage the
relevant issues.
The Workshop addresses all
the main practical questions affecting a financial services
business, and will consider issues such as:
-
What should we say about
data protection in our terms and conditions?
-
What should we do if we
lose a laptop full of client information?
-
Can we disclose client
information to a foreign regulator?
-
Can we back up our
client / employee systems to New York / India / Poland?
-
How do we deal with data
protection issues when our regulators require us to process data
- whistleblower hotlines, email monitoring, background checking,
internal investigations, etc.?
-
How do we justify
collecting sensitive personal data when we clearly need to but
can't get consent?
All of these questions, and
more, will be answered, within a systematic framework allowing you
to apply the fundamental principles to a range of new issues and
questions as they arise.
